Biography
Gio Ponti was an Italian architect, industrial designer, furniture designer, artist, and publisher. He graduated in Architecture at the Regio Istituto Tecnico Superiore di Milano, in 1921 opened a studio with Mino Fiocchi and Emilio Lancia. He debuted as a designer in 1923 participating in the Biennial of Decorative Arts in Monza.
Endowed with great vitality and imagination, plus the archi- tecture, design intereza furniture, xtures, machinery, lamps, textiles, ceramics, glass, it presents exhibitions and plays. From 1923 to 1930 Ponti worked in the Manifattura Ceramica Richard Ginori in Milan. In 1928 he founded the magazine “Domus” where he remained as editor until his death.
Bonacina
In 1889 Giovanni Bonacina founded his small business in the wake of the ancient art of Lombard basket makers. He was full of con dence due to the experience he had gained working with rattan furniture manufacturers from Germany, Austria and Holland.
As the years go by the rm has always maintained its crafts- man’s touch in or- der to offer a highly quali ed product. At the beginning of the century Givanni Bonacina started to export his products. The high quality of design and the ne precision work resulted in the winning of the gold medal at the exhibitions of London and Paris in 1909 and in Rome in 1910. Of that period are also the prestigious projects such as Villa d’Este on Lake Como.
