Lluís Hortalà

Lluís Hortalà is a Spanish Postwar & Contemporary artist. He has been working in sculpture and large format drawing for 20 years. The alpine theme emerges in his work from 1999 as a result of his previous experience as a mountaineer. It is especially following an expedition on Everest of which he was taking part of, when he has been interested in the iconography of this mountain, as well as the rocks of Montserrat, also related to his personal experience. Conceptually, his work reflects on the parallel between the experience of mountain climbing and the contemplative journey towards an interior landscape, as a metaphor for personal growth; equating the dangers of climbing with the dangers —stations — of the growth of the spirit.
